The Gritti Palace, Venice

One of the most celebrated hotels in Venice, the Gritti palace is the place where Italian history culture and food enhanced by a Venetian influence meets with exceptional art and traditional luxury. Siting right on Canal Grande, this beautiful property offers sweeping views of Venice’s greatest churches, Basalica di Santa Maria. Retaining the sumptuous 15th century Venetian palazzo period style, the hotel reopened in 2013 after a meticulous 15 month renovations. My highlight of this hotel is its one-of-a-kind floating terrace on the Grand Canal with gleaming steel accents and polished wooden flooring aiming to bring back the 1930s Italian yacht elegance. During the annual film festival held in Venice, the Gritti remains a favourite base for art-world and Hollywood celebrities, from Angelina Jolie and Woody Allen to Robert De Nior to Tom Ford.

The Ritz Carlton Hong Kong

This hotel comes with some serious bragging rights and completely transports you to a place of peace, tranquility and luxury. Check-in can be a fun experience as this hotel starts on the 103rd floor of the ICC building and the trip from the ground floor to the hotel lobby is an 80 second ear popping journey. All the rooms of the property offer breathtaking views of the Grand Victoria Harbour and ooze with luxury. One thing that stuck to me was that after you come back to your room in the evening, you will find the bed turned down along with some evening chocolates and a breakfast bed on the bed. The Ozone bar on the top of the building is the  world’s highest bar, with live Dj’s, an incredible cocktail menu and a great food menu too. One cocktail at this bar should be a must-do item on your Hong Kong bucket list as it is also open to non-residents and residents alike.

The St. Regis, New York

It is so hard to find a fault with St Regis New York. Just four blocks away from the Central Park this fifth avenue location cannot be beat. Even the standard guest room in this Beaux Arts landmark hotel is fully equipped with crystal chandeliers, crown mouldings, striped silk wall coverings, and 12-foot ceilings. All the rooms come with a personal butler, available 24 hours a day, and concierges of this property are known for being true experts in everything New York. Whether you’re working or playing in the city, this is a top luxury pick only next in competition to The Plaza. Your butler can do a variety of things for you. From delivering your morning coffee, packing and unpacking your luggage luggage, to assisting you with a wide range of any other service you may need.

JW Marriott Resort and Spa, Maldives

The brand’s first entry in the Maldives comes with one of its highest profile properties in the world. The cutest touch I felt in the hotel is that along with the turndown service they leave a small note card with the weather for tomorrow. In addition to the private pool that comes with each room/ villa, there are two other public pools. If you wish to go snorkelling, gear is available for free at the resort, and there are quite a few snorkelling spots, although definitely not at par with what Maldives has to offer. I understand that the coral here, and in this atoll in general, is not the best of Maldives. The other water sports equipment such as non-powered pedalos and paddleboards are also available on the beach at no extra charge. It kind of feels like undiscovered territory on another luxury planet.

North Island, Seychelles

The most expensive barefoot retreats in the world, North Island Seychelles is a magnet for the rich and famous. Crystal clear turquoise waters, white sand beaches with a glorious backdrop of the granite rocks makes for an ideal situation of the resorts four private beaches to experience a Robinson Crusoe existence. Usually when we go to a hotel, we adjust to their food timings and menus, but at this property there are no signs, no mealtimes or even menus! every experience in this hotel is specifically tailored to your preference and you can do things at your own pace. Courtyard By Marriott, Sindhu Bhavan Road

Could not end this round up list without having a favourite from my home-town. This new hotel opening in November 2020 marks the brand’s fifth hotel in the city and its so much more than what we can ask for. This glamorous hotel brings hip and fun to the very heart of Ahmedabad’s very own vibrant downtown, Sindhu Bhavan Road. This 120 room property stands ten stories tall above the city’s most famous area. Its beautifully simple façade, covered in transparent glass, looks like a floating sheer curtain by day, only to transform itself into a sophisticated and subtle installation by night. Every day, the city’s panorama as seen from the hotel enriches the experience of stay at the hotel. The food available at their indoor and outdoor cafe, Latte @ Work and at their All Day Dining Restaurant, Aura which has a very cozy rooftop vibe, is simply exceptional.
