Singapore makes it easy for first timers. This island state is made up of expats, so you’ll never feel out of place no matter where you’re from. The challenge for you is not finding something to do, it trying to filter out the best stuff from the hundreds of attractions and activities on offer. That’s why this Singapore survival guide is so handy – I’ve done the filtering for you. Choosing the best things to do in Singapore was no easy task; this is a city bursting to the seams with impressive attractions, exciting activities, and plenty of day trips for all the family. This tiny island state is also a land of contrasts; Chinatown and Little India, both gastronomic and shopping hubs in their own right, represent the incredible ethnic diversity of the country.

Universal Studios is great for families. For a spot of culture, check out the magnificent The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown. Here is a quick list of my favourite places in Singapore:

Where to go for the best nightlife in Singapore: The Lion City has been shaking off its reputation as being a sterile, overpriced hub of commerce, thanks in no small part to the ever-growing popularity of some internationally renowned nightclubs, not to mention some spectacular rooftop bars that keep popping up around the city. Where to shop in Singapore: This tiny island nation packs in more malls per square mile than any other country in the world, meaning that although it might only appear as a small red dot on your map, it’s well up there with the best shopping destinations in the world. Here is a list of my favourite shopping destinations in the city:
